Contrary to what zoo officials will tell you,

elephants have a natural lifespan of 60 to 70 years.

Of the elephants in AZA zoos who have died since 2000,

more than half were under 40 years old.

The AZA (American Zoo and Aquarium Association) is the institution

supposedly setting high standards for its member facilities.

So, why don't their elephants live longer?
